NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man died early Monday morning after he was hit by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 40 West.
It happened near the I-65 split near the D.B. Todd Boulevard overpass near downtown Nashville.
According to Metro police, 21-year-old Daniel Kostyk, was driving south on Interstate 65 when he struck the center concrete barrier at the Interstate 40 overpass.
Witnesses told officers that Kostyk got out of his vehicle and walked to where the I-40 west overpass connects with I-65 South and sat down on the interstate.
He was struck by a tractor-trailer traveling west on I-40.
Metro police said the driver did not stop and continued westbound on I-40. It’s unclear if the driver was aware he struck Kostyk, according to authorities.
A toxicology test will be conducted on Kostyk to determine whether alcohol or drugs played a role in this fatal crash.
Anyone with information about the driver of the tractor-trailer is asked to call hit and run investigators at 615-862-7713.
Kostyk’s car was later struck by another vehicle traveling south on I-65.
No one was injured in that crash.
