OLD HICKORY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Fifteen lucky people went home with a new car, free of charge in Old Hickory Saturday.

A + Auto Repair on Lebanon Road celebrated its grand opening by giving away cars to people in need after asking for nominations on Facebook.

The business asked the public to nominate a person or family in need of a vehicle and the nominations began pouring in.

The response from the community was so great, the number of cars grew from 11 to 15.

“Families are trying to do better in life and some of them cannot afford cars and some of them just need vehicles,” said owner Jonathan Schmitt.

Schmitt said he is looking to give away more cars in the future and hopes his contest can lead as an example for other Nashville area businesses to give back to their communities.

He hopes to sponsor another give away near Christmas and have Santa hand out the keys.
