NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police are investigating after a Donelson Waffle House was robbed at gunpoint early Sunday morning.

It happened at the McGavock Pike location, near Opry Mills Mall off Briley Parkway, around 5 a.m.

Metro police reported a man entered the restaurant with a black, compact handgun and told everyone to get on the floor.

The suspect demanded the key to the safe to which the employees replied they did not have a key, according to police.

Police said the man then demanded cash from the drawer and fled with approximately $700 in cash.

K-9 officers were brought in to track the suspect, but were unsuccessful. Police believe he possibly had a getaway car waiting nearby.

Only employees were inside the restaurant at the time of the robbery and no one was injured.

The suspect was described as a black man, 5 feet 8 inches tall, in his 30s. He was wearing a long-sleeve, dark-blue shirt, a navy Seattle Seahawks cap, a light-blue painter’s mask and blue surgical gloves.
