COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH)–A Columbus Police officer was reunited Friday with a man he saved from drowning nearly 20 years ago.

The reunion happened after a picture was posted on Facebook of Officer James Poole with someone at a community event.

A man who saw the post commented that an Officer Poole had saved him from drowning when he was 5 years old.

Officer Poole was surprised as that man, 24-year-old Christopher Jones, walked up to surprise him during an interview.

“You remember me, about 1997, you pulled a 5-year-old out of a swimming pool and saved his life?” asked Jones.

Poole was shocked as he remembered Jones and embraced him.

“Because of you, I’m still here,” added Jones.

Jones, who now has a 5-year-old himself, says he’s interested in becoming a police officer.

“Nineteen years, I’ve been waiting for this moment,” said Jones.

Poole said he was “just doing his job.”
