LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department is warning the community about a possible scam reported in the area.

Authorities received several complaints Wednesday about a caller claiming to be a member of the sheriff’s department or Lawrence Central Dispatch.

The caller reportedly says there is an active warrant on file for the call receiver and attempts to extort money, according to the department.

At times, the scammer has used actual names of department members.

Neither the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department or the Lawrence Central Dispatch conducts business in this way.

If you receive a call regarding this scam, deputies say the best approach is to terminate the phone call and do not have any further communication with the scammer.
