The ceremony was held on a bridge overlooking the Cumberland River on Wednesday – the official start to Marine Week.
News 2 spoke with Jana Rigsby who lost her son about what Marine Week means to her and her family.
“It’s about not forgetting people just go on with their everyday lives,” she explained “There are those who died to create those atmospheres where you can go out and do your lives every day – day in and day out.”
