NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Donelson man is crediting his dog with saving his life from a house fire in Donelson early Wednesday morning.

The fire began at a home on Eldon Court off Lebanon Road around 4 a.m.

Irish wolfhound Jack woke his owners up to alert them to the fire, which the owner was able to put out with a garden hose while waiting for the fire department to arrive.

The fire began in the home’s utility room.

“If it hadn’t been for him, who knows?” said the homeowner. “He saved me and my brother’s life tonight.”

Jack will be 3 years old in December. He weights 142 pounds. Irish Wolfhounds are one of the tallest breed of dogs in the world.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
