WAVERLY, Tenn. (WKRN) – Waverly police arrested a man they say hid in his apartment before allegedly assaulting and firing shots at his ex-girlfriend and another woman.
It happened Wednesday around 8 p.m. on Parkwood Drive.
According to a release from police, the two women went to Stephen Turner’s apartment to retrieve some personal items under the belief the 28-year-old man was not there.
Police said Turner was hidden inside the apartment and attacked the pair when they entered.
The two victims were able to run out of the apartment, but were assaulted in the front yard.
During the assault, police said Turner fired several shots. Neither of the victims were struck and they were eventually able to get away.
Turner fled back into the apartment when a neighbor called 911.
Upon their arrival to the apartment, police evacuated neighboring residents as they secured the area. It was quickly determined that Turner had fled his apartment through a back door.
He was ultimately arrested just after midnight about a mile away in a vacant home on Highway 13.
Turner was taken into custody without incident. Police said they have recovered the gun believed to have been used in the assault.
He is charged with two counts of aggravated assault and violation of an order of protection and remains jailed on a $160,000 bond.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
Both women have since been treated and released from a local hospital.
Turner’s ex-girlfriend had an active order of protection against him at the time of Wednesday night’s incident.
