NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Davidson County’s new property assessor made history Wednesday night taking the oath of office.

Vivian Wilhoite was sworn in at the Howard School Building in downtown Nashville. She is the first black woman to win an election to that position.

“That’s one of the things that means [so much to] me, to be able to break the glass ceiling and bringing about diversity, and I’m really excited about that,” she told News 2.

Wilhoite takes over the office with major reappraisal changes on the horizon for 2017.

She defeated the long-time incumbent George Rooker in a major upset.
