Police: Man wanted after coin collector swindled out of $26K

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police in Franklin are hoping the public can help identify a man who allegedly swindled $26,000 from a local coin collector.

According to a press release, the two men met at a Franklin restaurant on Aug. 12 after the victim placed an ad on Craigslist offering to buy gold coins.

The suspect brought coins to the meeting, and the victim reportedly ran a series of authenticity tests on them before agreeing to buy them.

Police say the victim believes that while he was counting out his money to purchase the coins, the victim switched them out for fake ones.

The victim is now out $26,000, according to authorities.
