NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – There was a special birthday party Sunday at Saint Thomas Health. The celebration was for children born in the neonatal intensive care unit.
The event gave them a chance to reunite with the doctors and nurses who took care of them.
It also allowed former patients and their parents to reflect on how the experience changed their lives.
“We had some struggles. She had some birth defects. Next week is surgery 13. She used to have a feeding tube. She had a feeding tube until she was 3-and-a-half. When she got her feeding tube out, I went to nursing school. Now I work in the unit she stayed in,” explained Kim Meek.
The celebration included games and food, and attendees were encouraged to wear boots and cowboy hats for the western themed party.
