Apple replaces gun emoji with watergun

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) – Following an online push for Apple to remove the gun emoji, the tech giant decided to replace the regular gun emoji with a water gun.

It’s being met with mixed reactions online. Apple announced the change earlier this month, and it has now been implemented with the iOS 10 update.

Some people have been in trouble with the law before because of the old gun emoji.

According to CNN, a 12-year-old in Virginia was charged after allegedly threatening her school in an Instagram post that used a gun, knife and bomb emoji.

A teen in Brooklyn was arrested for posting a police emoji with pistol emojis pointing at his head. The charges were later dropped.
