COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A homicide investigation is underway in rural Williamson County after authorities say two people riding four-wheelers discovered a woman’s body Monday.

The discovery was made off the side of a trail in a wooded area near the intersection of Choctaw and Cross Keys roads, not far from College Grove.

The woman’s remains were taken to the coroner’s officer. Her identity has not yet been determined and authorities said there is not a missing person report that matches the victim.

A cause of death has not been released, but a sheriff’s deputy on the scene told News 2 the investigation is being treated as a homicide.

An autopsy is being conducted. Detectives said they do not believe the body had been in the area very long based on decomposition.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation.

Authorities added they plan to use a helicopter to take aerial pictures of the scene.

Additional information is expected to be released later Tuesday.
