NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Dansby Swanson went two for four with a pair of singles in his Major League debut Wednesday night the with the Atlanta Braves.
The former Vanderbilt star and Marietta, Georgia, native had a big crowd behind him for his first start at shortstop at Turner Field.
Swanson was crushed by media and fans before the game and was clearly exhausted after.
With a smile on his face, he tried to capture just how amazing the night was.
“It was close to a dream come true as possible. That’s the only way you can sum it up. Playing for your hometown team. Basically going out there and doing what you’ve worked your whole life for. It was pretty special,” Swanson said.
Swanson lined out to center in his first at bat, singled sharply to right in the fourth, struck out and then singled sharply again in the ninth, this time to center field.
The first pick of the 2015 Major League Draft made it to the majors in only 15 months and made the jump straight from Double-A completely bypassing Triple-A.
