COUNCE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man died Monday during what the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says was an exchange of gunfire with U.S. Marshals.

Authorities went to Danny Pirtle’s home on Blackberry Way in Counce, Tennessee, nearly three hours southwest of Nashville near the Georgia state line, to serve a capias warrant.

The TBi says as they were trying to take 42-year-old into custody, he exchanged gunfire with the Marshals.

Pirtle died at the scene.

The TBI’s Violent Crimes Response Team with forensic scientists responded to the scene to collect evidence. The investigation is ongoing.

“As is our policy, the TBI does not identify the officers involved in these types of cases. We refer questions of that nature to the agency involved,” a press release concluded.
