NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Titans open the preseason Saturday night on News 2, and while a lot of people will be watching the stars like Marcus Mariota and DeMarco Murray, there could be a few more in the making.
One of the players to watch for is rookie safety Kevin Byard, who has been impressing coaches in camp, getting time with both the second team defense and special teams.
“Kevin’s going to be a special player I think; again he’s got a lot of confidence in his play, really confident. I love the way he’s not afraid to talk, he’s got a little strut when he makes a play, I think that’s something. He’s like a receiver that says you can’t cover me, he’s got that kind of mentality that you can’t beat me. The one thing about him is that I think you are going to get a core special teams player as well, we’re going to get a lot out of Kevin,” Coach Mike Mularkey said.
A third round pick by the Titans, Byard is expected to be a contributor immediately and that’s his only goal, to get on the field and help the team.
“I’ve been just trying to do whatever I can do you know what I’m saying, just show these coaches that I can go out there and play with anybody, go out there and play with the ones if the opportunity presents itself. I’m just going to keep doing what I can do, getting better every single day and make plays, you know what I’m saying and I always feel like I can make more plays than I do at practice or in the scrimmage and things like that so I’m just going to try and keep making plays and like I said just keep balling,” Byard said.
Expect to see Byard all over the field as the Titans open the preseason against the San Diego Chargers Saturday at 7 p.m. which is being aired only on News 2.
