NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A crew laying Google Fiber ruptured a gas line in north Nashville Saturday afternoon.

It happened just before Noon at the intersection of 14th Avenue North and Herman Street.

Workers from Piedmont Natural Gas spent hours trying to stop the leak, while police closed the intersection and parts of the road. At one point, Herman Street was closed from 12th to 16th Avenue.

Nashville firefighters opened manhole covers to ventilate gas that had built up beneath the streets.

Nearby residents did not have to be evacuated.

This is at least the fifth time contractors for Google Fiber have ruptured a utility line, including gas, water, and phone lines.
