Tennessee man charged after ex-Mississippi State football star killed

LAWRENCE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – A 30-year-old man is in custody after a former college football star was shot and killed in Lawrence County.

Upon arriving to the scene on Mockerson Road Tuesday, deputies said they found Curtis Sirmones Jr. dead near a porch.

According to a release from the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department, Yancey Williams said he shot Sirmones during an argument.

Sirmones previously played football at Mississippi State University. The university posted a story on its team website Wednesday about Simones’ murder.

Williams is charged with second degree murder and is being held on a $400,000 bond.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Loretto Police Department assisted in the investigation.
