Warrants were issued against Cortney Barrett, 25, Wednesday on charges of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death. Other charges are pending.

She is accused of hitting Elise Denton, 29, on July 10 as she rode her Honda scooter on South Lowry Street near the Nissan overpass.

Denton’s body was left behind as the suspect continued driving, dragging the scooter about one quarter of a mile.

Police say the suspect then stopped, got out of her truck, removed the scooter’s wreckage from underneath, and fled the area.

That driver was identified as Barrett through a tip, the police department said.
