Woman injured in hit-and-run accident in Smyrna

SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) – A woman was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being injured in a hit-and-run accident in Smyrna Wednesday.

It happened just before 10 a.m. as the 53-year-old woman was crossing North Lowry Street.

According to a release by Smyrna police, Christopher Padgett, the driver of the car, fled the scene. He was followed by a witness who provided police with his whereabouts.

Padgett, 32, has since been taken into custody and is charged with leaving the scene of an injury crash, failure to render aid and failure to report a crash.

The victim was seriously injured, according to Sgt. Bobby Gibson. She was last listed in critical but stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and other charges may be pending.
