MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Middle Tennessee State University men’s basketball team has been nominated for the “Best Upset” ESPY Award.

ESPN made the announcement on Wednesday.

The nomination comes after the Blue Raiders made history in March as they became the eighth No. 15 seed to defeat a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament, beating Michigan State 90-81.

“I’m really excited for our players and our fans as it will be a very enjoyable event and experience for the Blue Raider family,” head coach Kermit Davis stated.

Fans can vote for the Blue Raiders on ESPYs.com.

The ESPYs will be held on July 13 on ESPN.

The other nominees for “Best Upset” are Holly Holm’s knockout defeat of Ronda Rousey and Roberta Vinci’s victory against Serena Williams at the U.S. Open.
