ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) – An Orlando cemetery is stepping up to give families who lost loved ones in the Orlando nightclub shooting free burial plots.

For Don Price, protecting those who have passed on is his biggest honor. For 30 years, Price has called Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando home.

He considers the hallowed grounds of the historical Orlando cemetery dear to his heart. That’s why he decided that through death, he would give life to victims’ families grieving after the horrific Orlando shooting rampage that took the lives of 49 people.

“What brought me here is the history; this cemetery holds history of town,” Price told News Channel 8. “This is what we do. We honor people.”

Even in darkness, there was light that day, he said.

“They were happy that night, dancing. Having fun,” Price said.

And, though the victims were taken savagely in that moment, they will be given safety under Price’s tutelage. The memory of the slain in Greenwood Cemetery, he assures people, will be guarded and protected

“Our goal is to let the families know that we’re here for them – and we can protect. We’ll be the protector, at this point,” Price said.

In the hours and days after the shooting, Price, like so many others, wanted to help those who are hurting. So, he did what he does best. He created a special place for victims, a tribute to them in the city they cherished.

“It’s what we’re here to do, to take care of our own,” Price explained.

It is truly another example of good triumphing over evil. For victims’ family members needing help, there’s no cost. A plot has been set aside, 49 of them to be exact, free of charge. Any and all assistance will be given, Price said.

In Price’s own words, life is priceless. “We’re here for families. It’s what we do,” he said.
