NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Metro police say a 25-year-old has confessed to the murder of a 14-year-old boy at a Nashville apartment complex.
Shatara Jones, of Smyrna, was taken into custody Saturday morning after her mother called the police chaplain. They then arranged for Jones to be picked up and taken to a police station.
Jones will be charged with criminal homicide for the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Ladarrius Gentry.
He was shot in the chest Friday night while visiting the Knollcrest Apartments on 3301 Creekwood Drive, which is near Briley Parkway and Interstate 65.
Surveillance pictures show Gentry talking to someone in a maroon Dodge Caravan before a person, believed to be Jones, shot him. The van then sped off.
Jones says she was there to buy drugs from the teen, and she opened fire after they got into a dispute.
Gentry sustained three gunshot wounds. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
News 2 spoke with his brother, Charles Woodard, about the crime.
“I’m very heartbroken. This is something, like I said, I wasn’t looking forward to hearing. All I want is justice for my little brother.”
Metro police say the driver of the van came forward Saturday afternoon. He is considered a witness to the crime, and no charges have been filed at this time.
