NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A man was arrested Friday morning after police say he stole a car and then crashed it into four parked vehicles.
Lee Mayhew, 40, has been charged with vehicle theft, DUI, resisting police, and driving without insurance.
According to authorities, he stole a Kia Soul that was left unlocked and running in the parking lot of the Mapco on Lebanon Pike at 10:45 a.m.
Mayhew reportedly drove off at a high rate of speed but lost control at the dead end of Spence Lane and Cave Road.
Police say he then crashed into four vehicles in a nearby parking lot before taking off on foot.
He was apprehended by officers a short time later.
Authorities say this is not Mayhew’s first time stealing a car. He was convicted in April on two counts of auto theft and received two three-year probated sentences.
Mayhew was also convicted in 2008 on five counts of aggravated burglary. He received five concurrent 10-year sentences for that crime.
Meanwhile, police have cited the driver of the Kia Soul for leaving her car unattended and for an insurance violation.
