News 2 was there when Collin took off from Murfreesboro Municipal Airport Thursday.

He’s using this trip as his undergraduate thesis project. He also hopes it encourages young people who are thinking about becoming pilots.

“That’s what I’m hoping students and young people alike will see this trip and say hey there is a young college student going across the country and they will look into aviation. It’s pretty easy to get into aviation and there are also some affordable routes as well,” explained Collin.

The 7,000-mile long flight will take about a month and will have nearly 100 landings.
