WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) – One person was killed and two others injured in a multi-vehicle crash in Wilson County Sunday afternoon.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol identified the victim at 28-year-old Sergio Lopez.
Lopez was one of two passengers in a Chevy Cavalier when their car rear-ended a second car, driven by a 17-year-old male.
The second car had slowed on Highway 109 while drivers ahead turned onto Burton Road.
The impact started a chain reaction, sending the second car into a a third car which impacted a fourth.
The car containing Lopez then crossed the center line where it made direct impact with an oncoming vehicle and came to a stop in an open field.
The man driving the car containing Lopez was injured along with his second passenger. Both were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center by LifeFlight.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol reports that Lopez was not wearing a seat belt.
Highway 109 was closed at Burton Road for several hours, but it reopened at 8:30 p.m.
