ANN ARBOR, Mich. (WIVB) — A new study has found that children born to older women may fare better than others. .

Older women often face complications during pregnancy, but this research did not focus on that. Instead, scientists in Sweden chose to look at what happens when the babies age.

They studied 1.5 million adults. Researchers found people born to mothers who were in their late 30s or 40s tended to be taller, fitter and more educated than those born to younger moms.

Although, the scientists were quick to say that those outcomes cannot be guaranteed.

The researchers argue that the potential disadvantages of older mothers can be offset by healthcare advances.

People born in 1980, instead of 1960, are more informed and can make better health decisions, according to the study.

This being said, researchers have issued words of caution — They say it’s still not worth delaying pregnancy.

Brenda Volling from the University of Michigan mentions fertility rates, and how much tougher it is for a woman over the age of 35 to get pregnant.

When older women do have a healthy baby, that child can enjoy advantages.
