HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (WKRN) – A man died after his farm tractor was hit by a semi on U.S. Route 68 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky State Police, Jerry Williams was driving the tractor in the right westbound lane Wednesday around 2:15 p.m. while pulling a trailer loaded with wooden pallets.

The semi’s driver, Jason Stahl, was driving behind the tractor when he attempted to merge into the left lane but reportedly observed a motorcycle approaching in that lane.

The KSP says Stahl applied his breaks to avoid hitting Williams in the process but was unsuccessful.

Williams, 43, was thrown from his tractor and died at the scene. His tractor, which was not equipped with a seat belt, came to rest in a ditch off the side of the road.

The 40-year-old semi driver was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

Kentucky State Police is investigating. Further details have yet to be released.
