NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Jamie and Daniel Heard lost their son last December after he choked on food and never regained consciousness.
The couple then decided to donate 2-year-old Williams’s organs.
“We met with donor services and they gave us the opportunity to donate his organs, and it was kind of an answered prayer for us, just kind of a light went off… and we prayed for the families who were waiting for organs,” Jamie Heard told News 2.
The Heards were later able to meet the little girl who received his heart a few weeks after he died, saying it was a very special moment and they are happy William helped save someone else’s life.
“That was a special moment for our family. She’s a beautiful little girl. It was neat to be able to meet her, put our arms around her and hear his heart beat in her,” Daniel Heard said.
That’s why they are now raising awareness about organ donation through a special sale to remember to their late son.
Jewelry store Kendra Scott held the sale Wednesday night and sold green jewelry to honor William. The 2-year-old loved John Deer trucks, which are known for being bright green.
“Twenty percent of all sales go to Donate Life Tennessee,” Jamie said.
“We’ve got an incredible support system. A lot of coworkers, friends and family have taken time to drop by,” Daniel told News 2. “It’s a cool way to remember William.”
Kendra Scott also told News 2 they have received orders from people all over the country to help on Wednesday.
