NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Disney World holds the title for the No. 1 tourist destination in the entire world, but with a recent ticket price increase, is it still affordable for middle class families?

On Monday, a single ticket to the Magic Kingdom cost $117.15 for regular pricing, so taking your family to the happiest place on earth may take a toll on your bank account.

There are also peak days, where tickets run $132 apiece. Value tickets are also available on select days and cost $111.83. Click here for more information on ticket pricing.

“It is not an inexpensive vacation,” said Disney expert Jami Hill, who has been to the theme park more than 50 times.

Hill owns her own agency and only books Disney vacations.

“When people say to me is this going to cost $5,000? I can say, yes, it can. It can cost you $10,000 or $3,000 as well,” she explained.

News 2’s Samantha Fisher visited Disney with her mom and dad in the early 80s. She dug up an old ticket that showed her parents paid $6.50 for her one-day ticket and about $10 for themselves.

“They do increase prices about every year,” Hill said. “I will say Disney has something going for it. They have very high occupancy. It is a supply and demand situation. Their occupancy at the park is higher than ever.”

To help reduce the cost for a trip, plan as far as advance as possible, book somewhere to stay off the property, travel during off-peak times, and work with a travel agent to watch for deals.

Off-peak times include Feb. 28 until March 3 and Aug. 22 through Sept. 29.
