MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – He didn’t get an invite to the NFL combine so Middle Tennessee State University Safety Kevin Byard had one chance to impress NFL scouts and he did.
Byard whose speed was in question, ran a 4.46 forty yard dash in front of 24 NFL teams Thursday at the MTSU Pro Day.
Thought to be a free agent signee before Thursday, Byard has almost secured himself a spot to be picked in this year’s draft. One Scout saying he’s expecting for him to be picked by the fifth round.
Byard said, “Just the fact that I didn’t go to the combine I knew a lot of scouts were going to come out here and get the first look at me and see my athleticism and just like I said, man I think I did good and made a good impression on everybody so I’m definitely glad at my performance. I wasn’t going to tell anybody what I was going to run because I pretty much wanted to shock people, I mean I don’t know why they thought I was slow I was always fast coming out of high school so I mean this pretty much solidified everything I already knew.”
Byard has already made an impression on at least one NFL team.
According to NFL.com’s Ian Rappaport, the Cleveland Browns have scheduled him a visit and he leaves Thursday night.
