DICKSON, Tenn. (WKRN) — Stealing and vandalizing campaign signs is nothing new but catching someone in the act is.
That’s the case in Dickson where a woman’s Donald Trump lawn sign was destroyed and now police are looking for the suspect.
Christine Barrett’s home surveillance system captured a grey Hyundai Elantra driving by her home on Sunday, March 13.
A few minutes later, the car returned and the driver got out his camera and videotaped himself destroying Barrett’s Trump sign.
“Still makes me angry someone comes on my property and destroys something that belongs to me,” said Barrett.
Barrett is a former crime victim and she said the violation is frightening.
“I thought this is crazy, to come onto someone else’s property,” she said.
Detective Josh Etheridge told News 2 there are no other reports of campaign signs destroyed and what the man caught on tape doing is misdemeanor vandalism.
“He went onto someone’s personal property and destroyed something they were trying to express their freedom of speech,” said Det. Etheridge.
While police search for the man, Barrett has replaced the destroyed sign
with two brand new ones on her front lawn.
“If trump is who I choose to vote for, I have the right to. If you don’t like it vote for someone else. Put a sign in your yard. Don’t come into my yard and destroy my sign,” she told News 2.
If you recognize the man or the car in the video, call the Dickson Police Department at 615-441-9565.
