Suspect search near campus puts Tennessee Tech on brief lockdown

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Tennessee Tech University was placed on a brief lockdown Tuesday evening as Cookeville police searched for a suspect.

University officials told News 2 officers were searching for someone near the school but captured the suspect before the campus was affected.

A lieutenant with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office spotted a man near campus who had an active warrant around 8:30 p.m.

The man, identified as Markem Brown, was taken into custody around 15 minutes later, before he made it onto campus. Brown was allegedly wanted on an aggravated assault warrant.

“Everything is fine,” Dewayne Wright with Tennessee Tech. “University police triggered the TTUAlert message as a safety precaution.”

No additional information was immediately released.
