La VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Smyrna police arrested a man suspected of DUI after they said he led officers on a dangerous pursuit Tuesday morning.
A release from police reported officers tried to stop a vehicle for speeding and suspicion of DUI around 12:30 a.m.
According to police, the driver did not stop, leading officers through La Vergne.
Police said the driver drove into oncoming traffic and ran other vehicles off the road during the pursuit.
Eventually officers used a police vehicle to stop the vehicle near Murfreesboro and Waldron roads.
The driver crashed into the police car, causing minor damage and no injuries.
After a struggle, officers arrested 32-year-old Steven Shawl of Manchester.
Police say he will face several charges, including evading arrest, resisting arrest, criminal impersonation, DUI, reckless endangerment, driving on a suspended license, and refusal of implied consent.
Officers from the Smyrna Police Department, La Vergne Police Department and the Rutherford County Sheriff’s office were involved in the pursuit.
