NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Mount Paran Primitive Baptist Church in Nashville marked a milestone on Tuesday.
Even though the church has been around for more than 70 years, it has never had a steeple.
In 1972, the church moved from its original location on 12th Avenue South to its current spot on 14th Avenue North.
Pastor Freeman Geter said his congregation decided to raise money for a steeple to show the community they’re here to help.
“This church is a community church, and most of our church’s people come in from outside the community. We are letting this community know there’s a safe haven here for you as well,” Geter told News 2.
Quite a few church members, including criminal court clerk Howard Gentry, turned out to see the steeple raised onto the building.
Pastor Geter was proud to say his oldest member, Miss Hattie Mae Beatty, was on hand, too.
