SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) – A student at Stewarts Creek High School has been expelled after a loaded handgun was discovered in their backpack Thursday, officials said.
According to a press release, another student alert school officials of the firearm.
Rutherford County Schools spokesman James Evans said the student was immediately removed from class and has been expelled under the zero tolerance police.
Officials said the student will face multiple criminal charges.
Parents have since been notified of the incident.
Parents with students at nearby Stewarts Creek Middle and Elementary schools were also notified.
If parents have any questions about their children, they are asked to call the school.
