MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) – The 27-year-old man shot by an officer last weekend in Murfreesboro was booked into jail Thursday.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Department said Michael Kilpatrick was charged with aggravated domestic assault, aggravated kidnapping, and preventing another from calling 911.
The charges stem from a Sunday night incident at the Regal Inn on South Church Street when police officers responded to a domestic violence situation.
Kilpatrick is accused of threatening the lives of three children, one of which is allegedly his own, then assaulting his girlfriend. He’s further accused of attempting to evade police and trying to hit them with his car while the children were inside.
As the situation escalated, a Murfreesboro police officer opened fire, striking Kilpatrick at least once. He was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment before being released into custody.
The 27-year-old was booked into the Rutherford County jail on $90,000 bond.
The officer involved in the shooting, James O’Rourke, as placed on routine administrative leave while the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation looks into the incident.
