LOS ANGELES (AP) — Newly released video shows the moment a Google self-driving car learned the hard way not to tussle with a public bus.
The Lexus SUV, outfitted by Google with special sensors, struck the bus on Valentine’s Day in the Silicon Valley city of Mountain View.
Footage released to The Associated Press shows the Lexus edging toward an oncoming Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus, then hitting its side. Cameras on the bus recorded the collision. Click here to watch on your mobile device.
A transit agency spokeswoman says the bus driver wasn’t to blame. In a first, Google has accepted partial responsibility. It has blamed other drivers for past collisions during prototype testing in California.
Though the bus was only going 15 mph, the impact crumpled its front left end and flattened a tire.
No one was injured.
