Tenant not facing charges after burglar shot, killed at Nashville apartment

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A tenant is not expected to face charges after he shot and killed a man who reportedly broke into his south Nashville apartment late Thursday night.

It happened at Hickory Pointe Apartments on Old Hickory Boulevard near Nolensville Road around 11:15 p.m.

According to a release, the 27-year-old resident called police after he was awakened by a loud banging noise outside his bedroom window.

The man stated he retrieved his pistol and remained in his bedroom after he saw a man, identified as Francisco Rodriguez, kicking in his backdoor.

The victim said when the 21-year-old man opened his bedroom door he ordered him to freeze.

The tenant told police he fired shots after Rodriguez reached for his waistband.

Rodriguez was struck once and attempted to flee on foot a before he collapsed.

Police said the he was found to be carrying a semi-automatic pistol in his right front pocket and was wearing a sock on his right hand.

The resident cooperated with police and is not facing charges.

The apartment complex is a gated community and officers are investigating to determine how the suspect got inside.

The investigation is ongoing.
