NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — It was a game they had to win to keep their tournament hopes alive, and after trailing by only three in the first half, the Commodores outscored Kentucky 38-23 in the second to secure their 18th win this season.
Matthew Fisher-Davis led the Dores with 20 points including back to back three-pointers in the second half that put Vandy up by four.
Kentucky’s Jamal Murray kept the Wildcats around, scoring a game high 33 points and closing the gap to just a one-point defecit with just over 12 minutes to play.
But Vanderbilt buckled down to close the game on a 21-10 run and likely punch a ticket to the NCAA tournament.
Jeff Roberson scored 16 points while Damian Jones added 15. Both players finished with eight rebounds. Wade Baldwin added 14 points while dishing out 6 assists.
Vanderbilt is still in the hunt for 20 wins this season as they’ll host Tennessee Tuesday night at Memorial Gym followed by their season finale against Texas A&M next Saturday.
