NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A Tennessee Senate committee will discuss a plan on Tuesday that would allow college faculty and staff to carry handguns on campus.
The measure would allow staff and faculty at state colleges like MTSU and Nashville State to carry properly permitted weapons on campus.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to hear the bill Tuesday.
East Tennessee Senator Mike Bell proposed the bill after the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Ore. in October. A gunman killed nine people before taking his own life.
Other bills up for discussion during the week of March 14 include a bill to legalize medical marijuana, a bill to ban abortions after 20 weeks and a plan that would require Tennessee students to use the restroom that matches their birth certificate.
