NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Pekka Rinne made 28 saves and the Nashville Predators beat the Canadiens 2-1 in a shootout Monday in Montreal.
Rinne was perfect in the shootout period and has surrendered only two goals in the Predators last 180 minutes of regulation hockey.
Craig Smith scored the only goal of the shootout for the win and it came on the heels of a “bizarre” miss in overtime.
Smith had a wide open net literally inches in front of him, but somehow swung through the puck blocking his own shot with the backside of the blade.
Viktor Arvidsson scored his sixth goal of the season in the first period to give the Predators a 1-0 lead.
The Predators took over 7th in the Western Conference playoff chase with the victory. They have 67 points, one more than Colorado and they still have two games in hand.
The Predators are 3-0-3 in their last six games and 6-0-2 in their last eight road games.
