NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man was found shot and killed in a parking lot near the Priest Lake community Friday night.
It happened in the 400 block of Bell Road just before Anderson road around 8 p.m.
Police told News 2 the victim, 40-year-old Algernon Cross, was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Metro Nashville Police Department, Cross had multiple felony cocaine convictions, registered with MNPD as an ex-convict in June and was on parole at the time of his murder.
Cross was reportedly with a female relative. The woman said Cross told her to pull into the parking lot when he saw someone he recognized.
Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting.
Detectives said 36-year-old Jerome Sawyers went through Cross’ pockets after he was shot and threw something into a nearby creek.
When officers arrived, they say Sawyers was on the scene and refused to provide information of what happened.
Marijuana residue was found on the path Sawyers was walking.
Sawyers was charged with tampering evidence and is out on $30,000 bond.
