NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – It was a happy return to Bridgestone Arena for former Predators coach Barry Trotz as his Washington Capitals beat Nashville 5-3 Tuesday.
The Caps jumped out to a 2-0 lead of a pair of turnovers by Shea Weber and Filip Forsberg.
Forsberg made it a 2-1 game in the 2nd period with his 16th goal of the season.
Washington started the 3rd period though with a pair of goals from Justin Williams and Marcus Johansson to race out to a 4-1 lead.
Nashville made it a game with back to back goals. Roman Josi used a screen from James Neal to beat Braden Holtby for his 11th goal of the season with 10 minutes to play. Two minutes later Forsberg scored his second of the night and 17th of the season when he redirected a shot from Mattias Eckholm to make it 4-3.
A crucial tripping penalty in the final minutes by Eckholm though led to an empty net power play goal by Alexander Ovechkin to put the game away.
The win was Washington’s 39th of the season, which leads the NHL.
