NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Radnor Lake State Park was named Tennessee’s park of the year this week.
The Nashville park was named the state’s top park by Tennessee State Parks, the highest award given to all 56 Tennessee State Parks.
Parks nominated for this award have met the criteria of excellence in the areas of innovation, sustainability, interpretation and resource management – as well as fiscally responsible operation of the park.
In 2015, Radnor Lake conducted 636 programs and welcomed 16,337 visitors.
Each ranger became a certified canoe instructor, participated in two birds-of-prey training sessions and was trained on sensitivity for visitors with special needs.
The park acquired over $40,000 in grant funds to assist with resource management projects over this past year, including acquiring 33 new acres, opening a new aviary and a new observation deck on the lake.
