John Jay Hooker memorial held Saturday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – A memorial service will be held Saturday for longtime Nashville attorney and activist John Jay Hooker.

The service will be in the Grand Reading Room of the Nashville Public Library.

The memorial will begin at 1 p.m. with a visitation with family to follow.

The Main library is located at 615 Church Street. Valet service will be available at the front door for those in need.

A private burial is also planned.

Hooker, 84, died Jan. 24 after battling metastatic melanoma for several months.

Hooker was born in Wilson County and graduated from Vanderbilt University before becoming an established attorney.

During his life he took up a number of fights as an activist in Tennessee.

Most recently, he filed a lawsuit challenging the Tennessee state law that makes it a felony to assist in suicide.

Hooker is survived by three children and his wife.
