NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Ray of Hope Community Church is holding an event Sunday to commemorate National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
The event will take place at the church at 901 Meridian Street at 9 a.m.
As a part of the event, the church will provide free, private on-site AIDS testing.
Participants will hear from speakers living with HIV/AIDS as well as Dr. James E. K. Hildreth, president of Meharry Medical College and founder of Meharry’s Center for HIV/AIDS Health Disparities Research.
Author, journalist and motivational speaker Lawayne Childrey will also talk about his life as a young, black and gay man in the south.
Childrey will discuss his battle with HIV and his addiction to crack cocaine.
A catered reception, book signing and a Q&A session will follow his talk.
