NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – Police say a gunman injured Wednesday in a north Nashville shootout has yet to tell authorities what was going on despite being shot and left by his alleged associate.
Witnesses reported Thomas Smith was the front seat passenger in a brown sedan that was traveling on 22nd Avenue at Formosa Street just before noon.
The sedan was driving in front of another car when police say the occupants of the two vehicles were shooting at each other.
According to a release, Smith, who was armed with an AR-15 rifle, got out of the vehicle he was a passenger in and continued shooting at the other car.
Both vehicles eventually fled the scene. An injured Smith went to a nearby resident with a gunshot wound to his neck and asked for help.
He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
The rifle and a semi-automatic pistol were both recovered by officers in the street near where the shooting occurred.
The investigation is ongoing.
