NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — If someone win’s Saturday night’s Powerball drawing, it will be the biggest win ever.
Right now, the jackpot is at $900 million, but it could rise even higher by Saturday night.
If one person wins Saturday night’s drawing, they can take a cash option and walk away with close to $500 million.
Rebecca Hargrove, President and CEO of the Tennessee Lottery, told News 2 this is a world record and the highest before now was $590 million.
While the Powerball makes dreams come true for millions of ticket buyers, it also generates huge amounts of money for Tennessee students.
“Since the lottery we began we raised $3.5 billion for the education programs we fund,” Hargrove said.
According to state education officials, the Tennessee Lottery helped more than 100,000 students last year, pumping more than $300 million into scholarships for students looking to further their education.
The Hope Scholarship directly helps high school students go to college and it can provide up to $6,000 to students who qualify with a 3.0 GPA or 21 on the ACT.
The lottery also helped 500 veterans who were honorably discharged raising three-quarters of a million dollars.
Make sure to check your ticket and watch the drawing before News 2 at 10 on Saturday night.
