NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The Tennessee Titans announced Wednesday evening they interviewed Martin Mayhew for the general manager position.

Mayhew met with controlling owner Amy Adams Strunk, Kenneth Adams IV, and President Steven Underwood.

The interview came after the franchise announced they wouldn’t be renewing the contract of current GM Ruston Webster.

Mayhew most recently served as Executive Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager of the Detroit Lions, a position he held until last November.

The Titans said in a press release that Mayhew was hired by the Lions as general manager on an interim basis after the team parted ways with Matt Millen in 2008. After that year, Detroit lifted the interim title and made him GM.

Mayhew originally joined the Lions’ front office in February 2001 as senior director of football administration and staff counsel.

He was promoted to senior vice president of football administration and legal affairs on February 2003, and was appointed senior vice president and assistant general manager in 2004, the Titans said.

Mayhew also played nine years in the NFL as cornerback for Buffalo (1988), Washington (1989-92) and Tampa Bay (1993-96). He played in college at Florida State.
